Wilderness cabin by Lake Inari — a true backcountry base for fishing and exploring
This cabin offers an ideal escape to the calm of Lapland’s nature. Set on the shore of Lake Inari amid prime fishing waters and the scenery of the Inari Hiking Area, it lies about 43 km north of Inari village. There is no road access: in summer you arrive by boat; in winter by snowmobile or on skis — making this a genuine wilderness retreat and an excellent base for fishing and lake excursions. The ski approach from the parking place is 2.6 km; the marked snowmobile route runs on the ice about 200 m away. Summer hiking to the cabin is challenging due to mire sections.
Staying here requires outdoor skills and self-sufficiency. Guests must be comfortable with fire handling, water management, boating, and the remote location. A Lohi 520 rowing boat and a Yamaha 6 HP outboard are included; the trolling boat visible in one photo is not available.
The cozy, functional log cabin (53 m²) features a spacious living room/kitchen with a fireplace and a wood stove for warmth and atmosphere. Solar power is available for charging phones and other small devices; lighting and domestic appliances run on a generator that can be started conveniently from inside the cabin. The refrigerator and cooker run on gas. On the ground floor, there is one bedroom with two 80 cm beds; the living room has a 160 cm double bed and a 140 cm sofa bed. The loft has three 80 cm beds, so there is ample sleeping space for a larger group.
A large terrace links the cabin to the lakeside sauna, creating a pleasant spot to sit and take in the view. The 18 m² sauna building features a spacious wood-heated sauna and a dressing room with a sofa bed (140 cm when opened). In summer, pressurized water is pumped from the lake to the sauna; in winter, water is carried from an ice hole. The sauna terrace is covered and equipped with a gas grill and a grill pan, so evenings outdoors are comfortable in any weather.
A hot tub is available for an additional fee.
At the shore, there is a campfire site and a pier; the firm, gravel bottom deepens quickly. In the yard, you’ll also find two outdoor toilets, a wood shed with an underground cold store, a separate housing for the generator, and a heated hut for fish cleaning.
This is the perfect choice if you value tranquility, excellent fishing, and an authentic wilderness feel — without sacrificing essential comforts.
Distances: Rovaniemi 269 km; Ivalo 41 km.
Fuel notes: Refill the generator and outboard tanks to the same level as on arrival. Fuel type: petrol 98.
Bring your own drinking water. If you use lake water for cooking, boil it first as a precaution.
Bed linen and final cleaning are not provided. Guests bring their own sheets and towels, clean the cabin at the end of the stay, and take waste to a communal collection point.
The cabin is not pre-heated before arrival. Due to long distances, the owner does not check the cabin after every stay. If you find the cabin unclean or notice deficiencies on arrival, call the owner immediately.
The nearest official boat launch sites are Kotalahti Marina (approx. 14 km by water to the northeast) and Inari Village Marina (27 km by water). The cabin’s pier is accessible with a larger boat.
