Looking for an escape from everyday life — the whisper of the forest, the murmur of the river, and the scent of a wood-heated sauna? Welcome to Sorronpalo cabin, where modern rush fades away and nature takes the lead.
This traditional cabin is nestled in the rugged beauty of Lapland, about 106 km east of Kemijärvi and 41 km northeast of Salla — remote enough for peace and quiet, yet still easily reachable.
The cabin accommodates up to four guests. On the ground floor, there is a bedroom with two comfortable 80 cm wide single beds. The loft provides two additional beds (also 80 cm wide), and the living room has a sofa bed that opens into a 140 cm wide double bed. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need for a traditional cabin stay. A gas refrigerator keeps your food cool, and the gas stove makes cooking easy. Electricity is provided by a solar panel and battery system, offering lighting and charging for small devices like mobile phones.
The highlight of the cabin is the wood-heated sauna — a true Finnish experience. Enjoy the gentle steam and wash away the traces of everyday life. Water is carried from the nearby river by hand, just as it should be in a proper wilderness cabin. After the sauna, you can cool off on the cabin’s terrace or head to the grill hut for an evening by the fire.
The yard area is designed for relaxed cabin life. The terrace is perfect for morning coffee, while the grill hut provides a cozy spot for barbecuing in any weather. A fenced area keeps pets safe, and the outdoor toilet is located next to the storage shed.
The Kuolajoki River flows only about 30 meters from the cabin, bringing a soothing soundscape and scenic views. Please note that the river has some current, and the bank and riverbed can be slippery in places due to vegetation — swimmers and those carrying water to the sauna should exercise special caution. Still, an authentic connection to nature is guaranteed.
This destination is ideal for hunters, fishers, nature lovers, hikers, and anyone seeking an authentic Lapland cabin experience. No rush, no stress — just you, the forest, and the quiet song of the river.
The nearest state hunting areas are 3611 Naruska–Tuntsa (Salla) and 3610 Kemi–Kuro (Savukoski). Other Salla and Savukoski permit areas are also easily accessible, and hunting permits can be purchased from the Salla Jointly Owned Forest.
Please note that the equipment and comfort level of this wilderness-style cabin are simpler than in regular holiday cabins. Guests are responsible for cleaning the cabin during and after their stay. Bed linen and towels are not provided and must be brought along.
