380 km north of Rovaniemi, 40 km southeast of Utsjoki, located in the Kaldoaiv Wilderness Area (Finland's largest wilderness area), in an island of lake Keskimmäinen Riekkojärvi. Distance to shore 30 m, shallow, soft bottom. Rowing boat available, the owner rents out a river boat and outboard motor 5hv. The last stage, about 20 km hike or ski trip starts from the Skalluvaara reindeer site. Snowmobile route from Utsjoki to Riekkojärvi, the closest distance from that route to the cabin is about 1 km. The cabin renter can apply for a snowmobiling permit from Metsähallitus, which entitles him to move within five kilometers on the area of ice fishing lakes. With the owner you can arrange transportation and guidance to the destination. Log cabin, built in 1995. Livingroom/ kitchenette with 2 bunk beds, loft (steep stairs) with 3 mattresses, open porch. Separate sauna building, 20 m, steam room and dressing area. Cabin has a Wallox diesel heater and a wooden stove. Household water must be carried from lake /river, 150m away. Kitchen sink has a sewer. A hot water tank in connection with stove (warm water e.g for washing dishes).

WILDERNESS CABIN: Facilities in wilderness cabins are often more modest than in holiday cottages. Cabin is not preheated before customer’s arrival. Cabin should be cleaned by the customer during the holiday and after that. Due to long distances maintenance doesn’t check the cabin after all customers. If the cabin is not cleaned or there are deficiencies, please contact the caretaker immediately on arrival by calling. Please, remember to bring your own bed linen and towels (can not be rented). Water is not examined yearly so boiling the drinking water before use is recommended. Transport services by snowmobile, ATV and jeep, guidance to fishing sites and willow grouse hunting areas, husky- and reindeer safaris available from the owner. Also mountain bike, snow mobile and snow shoe rentals from the cottage owner. Cabin Riekkojärvi is a perfect base for fishing (including ice-fishing) or hunting of small game. Vetsijoki River is a tributary that runs into Tenojoki. It is an important spawning river for salmon in the Arctic Ocean. Other target species trout, grayling, pike and perch. Salmon fishing trips (River Tenojoki) from the owner for extra price. Fishing: angling and ice fishing are allowed without permission, excluding in the running waters. The fisherman must check the fishing restrictions at kalastusrajoitus.fi.
